Overview

Discover Joyful Seafood Restaurant, a well-established Cantonese dining destination at 5665 Kingsway #150, Burnaby, BC V5H 2G6, Canada, with reservations and enquiries available at +1 604-436-2986. Located near Metrotown, the restaurant specializes in traditional dim sum, Cantonese seafood, noodles, congee, barbecue meats, and family-style banquet dishes. With a 4.0 Google rating from more than 1,100 reviews, Joyful Seafood Restaurant in Burnaby has become a practical choice for families and groups seeking authentic local dining experiences without the formality of fine dining.

Dim sum is one of the restaurant’s strongest attractions. Steamed Crystal Prawn Dumplings feature translucent wrappers around plump shrimp, delivering the delicate, springy texture expected from classic har gow. Steamed Pork Shui Mai Dumplings offer a meatier bite, while both are currently listed around CA$8.78 on the takeaway menu. The broader dim sum selection includes BBQ pork buns, shrimp and chive dumplings, chicken feet, rice rolls, taro dumplings, and lotus-leaf sticky rice, making it easy to build a varied sharing meal.

For a more substantial centerpiece, Lobster with Noodle is a standout. Currently listed around CA$43.98, the dish pairs lobster with noodles that absorb the rich Cantonese-style sauce. Another strong option is the Chef Specialty Soy Sauce Chicken, around CA$24.98, known for tender meat and a savory glaze that remains balanced rather than excessively salty. Larger seafood and meat dishes generally move into the CA$25–CA$45 range, so the best value comes from ordering several plates for the table. Delivery-platform prices may differ from dine-in pricing.

Customer feedback frequently praises the dim sum and classic Cantonese flavors. One delivery customer called it “one of the best tasting dim sums I’ve ever had,” while other guests describe the food as tasty, reliable, and generously portioned. Independent reviewers also highlight lobster, squid, pork dishes, and seafood as consistent strengths. At the same time, the restaurant can become busy and noisy, and some guests have reported feeling rushed during peak periods, so quieter diners may prefer arriving outside the busiest weekend hours.

The atmosphere at Joyful Seafood Restaurant feels distinctly traditional: a spacious dining room, large circular tables, chandeliers, white tablecloths, and live seafood tanks near the entrance. This setup makes it particularly suitable for family lunches, birthdays, celebrations, and multi-course dinners. Parking is another advantage, while takeaway and delivery add convenience when the dining room is crowded.

Dessert brings a lighter finish, with choices such as Baked Egg Custard Tarts, Mango Pudding, Steamed Egg Yolk Buns, and Osmanthus Gelatin. For diners comparing the best restaurants in Burnaby for traditional Cantonese cooking, Joyful Seafood Restaurant offers an appealing balance of variety, portion size, seafood selection, and familiar dim sum favorites. Visit with a group, order several dishes to share, and enjoy one of Kingsway’s classic Chinese dining experiences.

Went there for lunch with family recently for the first time. Made a reservation and table ready when we arrived. Staff is friendly and service is efficient. Ordered a few dim sum items and their lobster special. The dim sum dishes were pretty good (the rice roll skin could be better but not terrible). However, the lobster dish was below average. The noodle was a soggy mess, the sauce was gluey, taste overly sweet (probably MSG cos we got thirsty after), don’t know if the main chef that day was off or what. I wouldn’t order that again. 10% off during lunch.

My friends and I , 6 of us went to Joyful for dinner, mostly we were there for lunch. The food there is huge in portion, flavour is pretty good, hasn’t really had bad experience eating there so far. The manager there is very easy to talk to, however we felt he was too pushy on their special dish and kept asking for our budget and stuff. In which, we felt uncomfortable. Even though we ordered the special dish at the end. There are lots of table available at around 6:30-7pm at night, probably because it is a weekday, if it is weekend or lunch, recommended for reservation. Also a reminder that it is good to use cash for payment but you need to let them know before they put in the order.

Joyful is a classic spot for Yam Cha in Burnaby, especially on weekends or holidays. It’s noisy. But it becomes the perfect protection layer for friends and families to exchange gossip without worrying who’s listening. Kids don’t usually enjoy the chaos, but once you hand them an iPhone or iPad, the whole table can finally relax. Dim sum runs about CAD 20 per head (if you stick to dim sum only), and it’s perfectly acceptable for what you pay. Don’t expect Michelin standards, please. As always, someone ends up packing the leftovers for round two at home. Honestly, that’s part of the tradition too. Somehow, this place feels more Hong Kong than the Hong Kong we remember.

I went there with my friends and ordered 10 people combo meal. Food quality is good. Price is higher than average but we ordered seafood and roasted duck. Overall experience meets our expections.

One of the best quality and price not to mention service, and they have weekdays special 20% off and free tea. I went with friends for early dim sum, 3 of us, 5 different dim sum, and after tax, less than $40. Great food great taste.
